The new Scorpion MTBs subvert current paradigms by offering a high-performance tire for every single terrain consistency, with different developments for every riding style. The innovative SmartGrip Compound, the technological heart of the new tires, guarantees mechanical resistance and grip on dry or wet terrain.

Pirelli's off-road tire is called, not surprisingly, Scorpion MTB (the company's trademark). As was already the case for the PZero Velo, the road tires that saw the return of Pirelli to the bike, we also wanted to choose a meaningful name for the MTB tyres. The Scorpion, in fact, are the historic Motocross tires of the long P, with which the company has achieved over 70 MX world titles. Like all Pirelli bike tyres, the new range of MTB tires was also developed in the center of innovation Pirelli, the R&D laboratories of Milan Bicocca: the main one among the 11 Pirelli research centers in the world, which with over 1000 dedicated researchers, allocates around 200 million euros every year for the development and innovation of its tyres. The SmartGrip Compound, the heart of the new tyres, was produced in the Racing factories in Plunga, where the engineering of the compounds of the well-known F1 tires also takes place.

Each measure has its dedicated development
The great experience acquired by Pirelli over years of presence in Motocross has been put to good use, in particular, in defining the tread designs of the Scorpion MTB range, the shape and height of the blocks, distance, cross-link and angles have been studied for maximum efficiency of imprint on the specific surfaces on which you pedal. When designing the new tires based on the consistency of the terrain, the engineers at Plunga also had to take into account many other variables: from the rider's riding style to the most recent developments in terms of profiles and rim sizes. For this reason, in the new Scorpion MTB the construction technology is not the same for all rubber sizes: each size benefits from dedicated development. The combination and interaction of structures, reinforcements, static and dynamic properties of the compound, sizes and different designs for the various terrains, has been a technical area of ​​innovation for Pirelli, in terms of approach to product development. As per Pirelli DNA, which develops all its products with the specific needs of the consumer at the centre, the Scorpion MTB range allows the rider to freely choose the size that best suits their riding style, without fearing compromises on performance.

The heart of the Pirelli MTB tire technology is the innovative SmartGrip Compound. Thanks to this specific compound, the "weather" variable does not affect the performance of the new tyres, which have been designed to offer grip and handling in any weather condition. As was already the case with the SmartNettm Silica, which resolved the compromise between rolling resistance and wet grip of the PZero Velo road bikes, so it is with the SmartGrip Compound, which in the Scorpion MTB closes the gap between tear resistance and grip on wet surfaces.
