The new Scorpion MTBs subvert current paradigms by offering a high-performance tire for every single terrain consistency

With a sporting history of over 110 years, Plunga exploits and makes available to cycling the enormous wealth of knowledge, patents, tests, innovations and technologies developed since it was founded in 1872 until today.

Today, the long P presents Scorpion MTB, the range dedicated to Mountain Bikes, which shifts the focus from the bike to the terrain, offering tires suitable for any type of surface and guaranteeing road holding, handling, speed and grip, regardless of the climate and conditions. weather conditions Like all Pirelli Velo bike tyres, the new range of MTB tires was also developed in the center of Pirelli innovation, the R&D laboratories in Milan Bicocca: the main one among the 11 Pirelli research centers in the world which, with Over 1000 dedicated researchers allocate around 200 million euros every year to the development and innovation of its tyres.

Each measure has its dedicated development
The great experience acquired by Pirelli over years of presence in Motocross has been put to good use, in particular, in defining the tread designs of the Scorpion MTB range, the shape and height of the blocks, distance, cross-link and angles have been studied for maximum efficiency of imprint on the specific surfaces on which you pedal. When designing the new tires based on the consistency of the terrain, the engineers at Plunga also had to take into account many other variables: from the rider's riding style to the most recent developments in terms of profiles and rim sizes. For this reason, in the new Scorpion MTB the construction technology is not the same for all rubber sizes: each size benefits from dedicated development. The combination and interaction of structures, reinforcements, static and dynamic properties of the compound, sizes and different designs for the various terrains, has been a technical area of innovation for Pirelli, in terms of approach to product development. As per Pirelli DNA, which develops all its products with the specific needs of the consumer at the centre, the Scorpion MTB range allows the rider to freely choose the size that best suits their riding style, without fearing compromises on performance.

    Characteristics

    • The Scorpion S (Soft Terrain - light blue) are at their best on loose and soft surfaces.
    • Grip: SmartGrip Compound for uncompromising grip, on dry and wet surfaces.
    • Easy handling: a model designed to be compatible with modern wide profile rims.
    • Damping: Tubeless ready 120 Tpi carcass for greater stability and grip with a modern riding style at low pressures.
    • Protection: A tear-resistant compound with additional reinforcement (120 Tpi) on the tire shoulders for superior protection from punctures and cuts.

    Technology

    SmartGRIP Compound

SmartGrip Compound is a compound that uses the most advanced chemical technologies to obtain two typically antithetical characteristics in the offroad world: mechanical resistance and chemical grip. This formulation allows to reach such a level of performance that it can be used throughout the entire layer of rubber that makes up the tread. The use of a single compound guarantees that performance does not decrease as tread wear increases, a critical issue typical of multi-layer compounds. Pirelli chooses the best compound for each tread and each size, no compromise between grip and handling on dry and wet surfaces.

    ProWALL

Sidewall reinforcement technology, for better puncture protection and driveability at low pressures. An additional layer of Nylon fabric applied to the sides of the carcass for extra protection and greater cornering stability.
